5 Ways Microsoft Dynamics 365 Works for Nonprofits
When you think of a nonprofit, what do you think of?
It’s likely, you think of an organization full of kind, giving, passionate, and mission-driven people who are making a difference in local, state, national, or global communities.
Their power to affect positive change joins groups of like-minded people with shared missions to deliver happiness, help, and heart to the world, and, may we just say – it’s amazing what some of these nonprofits accomplish!
The positive impact nonprofits typically have on their communities is enormous.
So, you may wonder, how do they support and organize all of the information they collect through the external involvement of volunteers, donors, and members?
Microsoft Dynamics 365 is one great CRM Solution that sees the value of nonprofits and reflects their needs in CRM system functionalities.
For nonprofits, Microsoft Dynamics 365 offers these six major benefits:
1. Joining Departments in One System
Microsoft Dynamics 365 offers a complete visualization of a nonprofit environment to team members.
It is especially beneficial for smaller nonprofit Microsoft Dynamics 365 Users to have access to the full environment. When it comes to handling interactions all in one place, Microsoft Dynamics 365 delivers.
2. Grant Management
Microsoft Dynamics 365 can be configured to offer nonprofits ways to track grants, starting with the application process to being awarded the grant.
Users can also set up recurrences that remind them to renew or reapply for grants. These recurrences can be set up so only a select few are notified about them, or the whole team can be.
3. Cost Savings
Most nonprofits have limited budgets, so Microsoft Dynamics 365 strives to keep the cost of its system low so nonprofits have options with quality CRM management.
For nonprofit organizations, Microsoft Dynamics 365 offers licenses at the following rates:
- Dynamics 365 Enterprise: $28.75 per user, per month (including full use of Apps)
- Dynamics 365 Team Members: $2.50 per user, per month (including the light use of Apps)
Separate Apps are also available at more affordable rates for nonprofits.
As a nonprofit, there is the option to get your charity licensing through Ledgeview since we are a CSP (Cloud Service Provider) Partner.
4. Effective Donor and Volunteer Management
Many times, nonprofit organizations’ highest considerations are with donor or volunteer management system integrations in choosing a CRM System.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 comes with Office 365 and PowerBI to connect CRM managers and fundraisers with donors and volunteers to help increase donations and volunteerism.
With donor and volunteer management in Microsoft Dynamics 365, comes more opportunities to connect and build organizational awareness.
Not to mention, Microsoft Dynamics 365 comes with Microsoft Social Engagement to help nonprofits analyze digital trends on popular social media platforms that show them impactful they are in the digital sphere.
5. Powerful Configuration
To meet the unique needs of nonprofits, Microsoft Dynamics 365 can be molded.

The Deadline to Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics 365 V9 is Closing In
The deadline to upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Version 9 is fast-approaching, and Ledgeview issues the following warnings so you can prepare.
Whether or not you’re currently a Ledgeview customer, we want to see you succeed with this upgrade, and preparation is the key to this end-result.
Since this is a very time-consuming process, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Users need to plan ahead to prepare for all of the changes that come with the upgrade.
As a reminder, Ledgeview offers a Diagnostic to make sure you are ready and can help with any implementation updates to avoid downtime.
Though it may feel like the deadline is far away on January 31, 2019, it will come up fast, and users need to spend those months prior doing necessary planning and preparing, to ensure upgrade success.
Users should consider the following:
- For Dynamics 365 (online) customer engagement applications, if you are a Microsoft customer, communications were sent in May to all customers running version 8.1, and updates have been scheduled.
- Dynamics 365 (online) version 8.2 will be supported until January 31, 2019. Customers running version 8.2 should plan to update to the latest version prior to this date.
- From February 1, 2019, and onwards, Microsoft will only support the latest generally available version.
As a Ledgeview customer, we recommend upgrading to Version 9 to encourage continuous user adoption, stay ahead of the curve and your competition, be industry leaders, and much more. (We go over the details in a user-friendly FAQ sheet, listed below.)
The updates with Microsoft Dynamics 365/CRM Version 9 are customer-driven, what with Microsoft’s thriving community that suggests and requests updates, along with providing other important feedback that helps mold the system into the future of CRM.
When you upgrade, there’s no doubt that your system will change. You can’t deny or ignore this fact.
You need to know about these changes, how to handle them, and how they will affect your CRM environment and team. Avoid glitches with a Diagnostic, for example.
Though the benefits of using Microsoft Dynamics 365 may be clear to you, we understand that the benefits of upgrading may not be as clear.

Jet Reports 2018 R2 New Features
I wrote a blog psot on Implementing Jet Reports earlier this year. While I was mid-series a new version of Jet Reports was released, Jet Reports 2018 R2.
Jet Reports published a blog post on the new features and there are some quite nice ones included.
- Run Reports directly from your Windows Desktop – Run your reports without even starting Excel; just right-click and the new task tray app will let you know when your report is ready.
- Run Reports in the Background within Excel – No need to wait for your report before you can start using Excel as you can run your report in the background and continue working with your other Excel files.
- Updated Jet Ribbon and Windows within Excel – The Jet ribbon has been updated and the entire user interface has been refreshed to be more consistent.
Several items have been rearranged to be easier to find and other related items have been grouped together for a cleaner experience; all configuration settings have been combined under a single button and the run options have also been consolidated.
In an effort to better explain what they do, the Refresh and Report buttons have been renamed to Run and Run from Cache, respectively.
Details on all of the changes are available on the Jet Reports blog.

Tip #1135: For plugins, use SDK with the same or below the server version
Problem
Another week, another challenge from Guido “Future Olive Farmer” Preite:
I created a plugin for one Online instance (version 8.2.2.1862), I created a class library project with .NET 4.5.2 and with nuget I installed the Microsoft.CrmSdk.CoreAssemblies version 9.0.2.3
I registered the plugin and I always get this error:
Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]]: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
After checking the plugin code I decided to downgrade the nuget package to 8.2.0.2 and the plugin worked perfectly after. Beside the .NET 4.5.2, for Plugins, do we need to start to be careful to match the nuget version based on the Instance version? Or is it a bug in the latest SDK?
Solution
Nope, no bug, all is by design. You can’t get a more authoritative response than the one from Matt “SDK Deity” Barbour:
You cannot use a higher version of the SDK for a lower version of the server for plugins
Thus 8.x servers need to use 5 – 8.x assemblies. Where as 9.x servers need to use 5 – 9.x SDK assemblies.
